About Kates Furniture

The company was founded in 1985, by James Kates, Sr. Kates Furniture and Appliances began as a used furniture store. In April 1992, after retiring from the military, James’ son, Danny, joined the company. In August 1993, James’ youngest son, James Jr., having also retired from the military, came on board. In September 1994, Kates Furniture and Appliances moved to their new, larger store location on Richmond Avenue and began selling new and pre-owned furniture. In October 2004, James Jr. retired for medical reasons. The company was changed to Kates Furniture, LLC. Kates Furniture, LLC continues to be a family-owned and operated business. Kates Furniture’s knowledgeable staff has over 20 years of experience selling used and new furniture.
